Dropstone vs Claude Code

A Claude Code alternative with no 5-hour limit

Dropstone is a coding agent for the terminal, the editor, and chat. Usage runs on one weekly window with no 5-hour cutoff, Pro is $15 a month, and what you teach the agent is remembered on your account, across the CLI, chat and your own code.

Why people look for an alternative to Claude Code

The limit hits in the middle of a task

Claude Code meters usage in a rolling 5-hour session window, with weekly limits on top for paid plans. Long agentic sessions can use a window up before the work is done.

Memory that stays inside one tool

Claude Code keeps notes for itself in memory files, and users report pruning them as they grow. What it learns does not follow you into chat or into your own scripts.

More usage means a bigger jump in price

Claude Pro is $20 a month. The next step up, Max, starts at $100 a month.

One tool for one surface

What you set up in the terminal does not follow you into chat or into your own scripts.

What is different

Usage that lasts the week, not five hours

Your plan's allowance covers a rolling seven-day window. Everything you do, in the CLI, in chat, or through the SDK, draws from it, and there is no shorter window that cuts you off mid-task. Dropstone delivers up to four times the weekly coding usage per dollar of comparable tiers.

It remembers what you correct

Correct the agent once, in the terminal or in chat, and it applies that correction from then on, on every surface you sign in to. The memory belongs to your account, not to one tool or one machine, and you can see, edit and delete what it remembers.

Three tiers, re-chosen monthly

Fast for quick loops, Pro for everyday work, Heavy for the hard cases. Each tier is re-evaluated every month and the strongest available model becomes that month's pick, so the tier name stays the same while what is behind it improves.

Controls for teams

Roles, model and connector policies, an audit log, single sign-on, SCIM provisioning and content logging. Requests run in the United States with zero retention upstream.

When Claude Code is the better choice

  • You specifically want Anthropic's Claude models and nothing else. Dropstone serves its own three tiers; you pick a tier, not a provider.
  • You want to bring your own model or API key. Dropstone does not route to a model of your choosing.
  • You want nothing remembered anywhere. Signed-in Dropstone surfaces keep a memory by design (you can view, edit and delete it, and incognito chats write nothing to it).

Switch in two minutes

Install the CLI, then run dropstone login. It opens your browser once and returns to the terminal.

# macOS / Linux
curl -fsSL https://dropstone.io/install | bash

# Windows (PowerShell, not cmd)
irm https://dropstone.io/install.ps1 | iex

Then ask it something real from your own project and correct it once when it gets something wrong. That correction is what it carries into every later session.

Questions

Does Dropstone have a 5-hour limit like Claude Code?

No. Every Dropstone plan has a single weekly allowance on a rolling seven-day window. There is no 5-hour session window.

How much does Dropstone cost compared to Claude Code?

Dropstone Pro is $15 a month and Lite is $5 a month. Max 5× is $75 and Max 10× is $150. Claude Pro is $20 a month and Claude Max starts at $100 a month.

Can Dropstone remember my project between sessions?

Yes. Each account has one memory that the CLI, chat, the editor extension and the SDK all read and write. A correction you make once is applied in later sessions without re-explaining it.

Can I try it for free?

Yes. The Free plan includes a weekly allowance and the Fast and Pro models.
